Hakone one day & Lake Ashinoko

Hakone, located about 100 km from Tokyo, is one of the ideal destination for one day trip and can be accessed easily by train. Visitors can feel the beautiful and powerful nature here. Lake Ashinoko, a caldera lake created by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Hakone, is a nice place to enjoy the cruise by pirate boat. The volcanic activity still can be seen at Owakudani Valley, where you experience the spectacular view and sulfurous fumes gushing out, and can taste a black egg, boiled and colored by sulfurous muddy water. Onsen (hot spring bath) is also one of geothermal activities and Hakone is very famous for Onsen resort.

Beautiful panoramic scenery can be seen from ropeways, especially magnificent Mt.Fuji in a fine day.

Many museums and historical places such as “Sekisho”, kind of passport control during Edo period, and “Tokaido-suginamiki”, stone paved historical path along with cedar trees are also nice place to visit.

What you can expect during the tour

Cruse at Lake Ashinoko
Most popular attraction at Hakone is the cruse by a pirate boat. It takes 25minutes from Hakonemachi / location of Motohakone pier, Sekisyo and Hakoneshrine, to Togendai pier, the starting point of Hakone Ropeway. During the cruise, you can enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji and the red colored Torii gate of Hakone shire.

Hakone Ropeway connected Togendai Stn to Sounzan stn in Gore area via Owakudani valley. The views of Lake Ashinoko and Mt. Fuji are very beautiful.

Owakudani valley
Spectacular view and sulfurous fumes gushing out from volcanic activity. You can feel the power of earth here. A black egg, boiled and colored by sulfurous muddy water, is one of the special food in Owakudani valley.

Hakone shrine
Built in 8th century and located at Motohakone town. It is worshiped as the guardian god for the travelers at Hakone mountain road.  The red colored Torii that is located in the Lake, is very famous.

Sekisho (historical check point)
During Edo period, Tokugawa shogunate places 53 check security check points in order to prevent weapons from being brought into Edo and wives and children of feudal loads from fleeing from Edo. Hakone sekisyo is one of largest and most important check point built in 1619 in this location.

Tokaido-suginamiki path
During Edo period, 5 main roadway were developed and maintained. Tokaido roadway that was connected Edo (former Tokyo) and Kyoto was the most important roadway at that time. In Hakone, you can visit and trek the old Tokaido roadway. Some part of the path are stone paved, and some are with cedar trees along the pass.

Museums and parks
There are many museums and parks in Hakone area. Narukawa Museum, located at Motohakone town, collects Japanese paintings. Hakone Open Air Museum, located at Gora, exhibits some 100 masterpieces by the world masters of modern and contemporary art in 70,000 square meters of green garden. Gora park is famous for the beautiful flowers, such as cherry blossom in spring, azalea & hydrangea in summer and crimson foliage in autumn.

As Hakone is also an Onsen hot spring bath resort, even one-day trip visitors can enjoy the Onsen in many places.
